Need help transferring an Winrar File

Look in "Network," "Network Places," or anything that says "Network," and find the name of that computer, if you gave it a name.

So, I have two computers: Computer 1 is Richard, and Computer 2 is Charlie. I want to put stuff on Charlie. This is how I do it: configure a share on Charlie. Now, I go to Richard. To do that, you would go to Network, or whatever I said in the last paragraph, and find the name of the destination computer. In this case, it's Charlie.

Another approach is the manual one, but it works. Using the last example, to access the share on Charlie, I would type,

Code:
\\Charlie

That should access the shares all right.

That was just an example. Your computer names will be different.

OK, try it and see.

Then you must set a share directory on your laptop or whatever machine that you're transferring the files to.

Don't bother setting up a share on the PC that you're going to move the files from.

Back to the analogy I made earlier. I want to move the movies stored in Richard and put it in Charlie. I would need go to Charlie, create a directory, and set that directory to share. And to do that, you would right-click on Charlie's movie folder, say C:\Movies, go to properties, and see if there is a Sharing tab of some sort. Set the permission to read/write/full control so that Richard can be allowed to see Charlie's file folder C:\Movies and put all the movies from Richard to Charlie.

Then you should be golden.

If not, you might also want to make sure the workgroup name is the same for both computers. Just leave it at "Workgroup." Why try to fix it if it's not broken? Anyway, that's what you would do.

Bottom line: set the share and put it to full control.

I'm not familiar with Windows 8-10 as I have not spent the time to use those two abominations, so I can't help you there. I have, however, have more experiences with 7, and 7 demands that you make full control of your share folder so that you can transfer your media to there.

Try that. If that doesn't work, maybe it's the firewall that is installed in either/both machines. Go wild.

You did say "wireless network," right?

If so, make sure that the wireless router is configured properly and that both computers can use and are logged in the wireless network.

This step varies greatly for all routers. You'll have to consult your router's documentation; I can't help you there.

Hello, look who the cat brung to the party!

Robert, if I got it right, you said NOT to care setting a shared folder on the PC he want to copy FROM and do it on the PC (notebook) the files go TO ?
If so, I learned it the other way around. Am I confuse ? Probably.

Edit: { Scrap that, you're sitting on file source (desktop) to SEND files to target (notebook), that way the PC is the guest on the target... Target's folder needs to be shared. }

Also, why so hard to set up a home file access, did he try the home network assistant on WiFi ?
As last resort, could use Joiku, DLNA or WiFi File Transfer apps freely available to download ?

When needed, I remove the hard drive from the PC and use a SATA-to-USB external adapter (driver enclosure) to connect to the notebook.
The copy part couldn't be faster and easier, adding only 5 minutes with a screwdriver. Unplug power from wall first...
