[Need advice]Converting DTS-HD 7.1 to DD+ 7.1
#1
Hello everyone,

I did not really know where to put this demand, as such, if not posted correctly, feel free to move wherever required.

As most manufacturers LG, Yamaha,... are dropping DTS for the benefit of Dolby digital plus I am in need in finding as solution to easily convert my DTS/DTS-HD 2300Kbps files to a dolby digital version with the same bitrate and the same channels.
I have been looking for a software and only xmediarecode could just copy over the video and convert the audio, however only to 5.1, not 7.1 and a limited bitrate of 950Kbps.

I know you can extract all channels, convert them 1 by one, and remap them, but with more then 7000 movies, that is not an option. I need it quick and clean Smile

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your possible solution, however, kodi downmixes audio and there is no way it can on the fly remix the DTS-HD 7.1 to DD+ 7.1. I use DLNA directly to the video and audio decoders of my tv and av receiver for the best possible quality.
Additionally kodi does not support 10bit HDR Smile

Well I don't see the point in what you're doing, or either a reason why you would want to remix DD on the fly.  It's quite simple really just plug your Android box or whatever you want into your TV and then stream from your server or whatever you use directly into your Android, something like the Nvidia Shield and then into Kodi and you can play most codecs that way.

There's no point downgrading audio because it's a step backwards you might as well retain the nice audio you have and keep it instead of trying to downmix.  Besides the core of a TrueHD track is DD not DTS-HD MA so really if you're going to try and convert it would be a better idea to just extract the core DTS-HD MA to DTS and TrueHD to DD and just leave it alone and not mess with it.  DD is only supposed to be 5.1 anyway and you'll only have 16-bit frequency.

It just sounds a bit silly what you're saying that's all when you can just run it into a TV system using a good quality HDMI.  Sadly these days if you want the UHD quality then really you are better to play from a disc on a proper system and then you can achieve all the HDR with 10-bit colour.  There is no such software anywhere on planet earth where you can somehow do a rip and encode to a more lossy format which involved retaining HDR quality and it has not been brought out yet and nobody on planet earth has programmed such software as of April 2021.  If you're so particular about HDR then just order the original UHD discs from Amazon or somewhere and just forget trying to compress because you can't.

This is the reason why HD is still so good because you can quite easily compress down video by using a program such as Handbrake and it will work very well.  All this downgrading audio is not worth it just stream into Kodi and into a TV system and that will look good enough.  I use a Android box system that has 4K connectivity and it works really well if I wanted I could stream from a server over a local network with the use of Cat6 cabling and I can run from Android and Kodi into a high end television and I can achieve 4K quality no problem just depends on who has done it maybe over at RARBG they have lots of good UHD rips over there and they seem to have a pretty good idea what they are up to.

No one is saying anything about android or nvidia shield. I have an LG TV (LG OLED65CX6LA) which has a mediaplayer in its webOS, which works perfectly, but in their wisedom they did not implement a DTS decoder. As such DTS encoded audio streams do not play.

Not sure what makes you think that I want to downgrade the audio, well it depends what you mean with downgrade, when you recode from one codec to another it loses some quality, but I would retain the same bitrate as was delivered with the DTS streams and no or yes, I know DD+ is better in compressing audio, but I do not care about HDD space.
Yes, DD is 5.1, that is why I want it recoded to DD+ which is perfectly suited for 7.1.

No one is talking about the video. This files run fine on my TV for example: https://thepiratebay.org/search.php?q=21...=0&orderby=
This is about recoding the audio streams from DTS which is not supported by the TV to comparable DD+ 7.1 streams with same/comparable bitrate. No one is talking about video.
You serious about using disks? Who is still uses disk? I have 65TB on video files where 85% just runs fine through DLNA to my yamaha av receiver and my LG tv, I need to fit the DTS issue Smile

My standards are much higher, I only download anything with atleast 5.1 1500Kbps sound and with 2160p (besides some older movies). I also spend a lot of money on a decent 9.3.2 home cinema system so that I can feel and enjoy movies. Using kodi and their on the fly downmixing isnt going to cut it for me. FOr example, atmos is also not supported, as such totally useless to my situation.

Btw, handbrake does not copy the video stream, you are forced to convert it, which I do not want.

With a library that size, I'd look to using Plex server/client which can transcode the audio.

Then you don't have to convert all that audio, and will have support of whatever client is watching rather than trying to accommodate any particular device.

That is the thing, my setup is too good to not go for the best possible quality.
Maybe I should hire some fiverr guy to write me a program for it.

As of right now today, the best set up and best quality you can achieve on a home cinema setup is through the use of UHD original media.  Everything else in the pirate world comes beneath that quality and that is just fact, there's no other alternative that can be better in any form.

Like Moe said and this is what I'm trying to point out, you just gotta get the right kind of device that will play the codecs correctly unlike certain devices that you mentioned which are dropping support.  Simply dropping support these days is a common practise so therefore I would, me personally, just use Kodi as it is the best and has no issues when it comes to playing most formats which also include Atmos audio (if you have the correct speaker setup).  Simply put, you need pirating equipment to do pirating.  I know plenty people myself who use UHD discs bought from the internet as it has the best quality and the full HDR and everything you need plus other things like Dolby Vision and sadly without the original source you won't achieve this not from any uploader until one day somebody programs a good encoding program that can handle this kind of thing, both video included with audio.  In the regards to video you talk about both not just one that is just how it works.

Of course you are right concerning the lower quality, most files are lower quality then the orginal bluray disk, however, I dont want to store these physical disks, thus the next best thing are these bluray dumps you can find on torrent sites Smile
There is nothing more satisfying then being able to start watching a movie on my TV in my livingroom and during the movie move to the tv in my bedroom without having to transport disks or even cleanup the disk after usage.

In any case, ill check with some specialist on fiverr if he can build me something to get the job done.

Thank you for the feedback.

Yes well I'm just trying to offer some help.  There is a few reason why I don't rip and encode UHD video myself and post it to TPB because it's too much messing around and I understand what you're saying about having a network stream because I do exactly that myself and I stream myself across my own network that I have built myself over a few years and I even made all my own cables and everything and wired them up by hand it's just that UHD is very big and compared to the current market storing and uploading and seeding very large quality movie files is a bit extreme because it requires huge amounts of bandwidth to get it going and sadly most people don't feel this way.  The amount of bandwidth you're allowed to use (I am restricted myself by the regulators) and therefore you cannot be allowed to upload and seed in such massive amounts the speed issue is the main problem maybe one day on the web people might allow for bigger allowances and faster seeding.  It just takes such a long time to actually upload HD nevermind UHD.

I have ripped many movie files now for years and I just use Atmos and TrueHD passthru and it works really well but I don't have the Atmos ceiling speakers installed I have a good receiver that can handle all that but just can't be bothered to put speakers on the ceiling.  The passthru for me works really well and I don't compress down or change the sound format I only compress down the video so it's easier to download.  Maybe one day hard drive space might be cheaper and bigger better seeding might go on but until then I'm sticking to HD as the titles are more widely available (somebody has to get the proper original disc and copy it that's what I do mostly) then that way you can access more things.  UHD is okay but you'll find it's really expensive and yes you're right using digital format is much greater I can access myself a full library in seconds where as with discs it takes minutes but it's true if you want the best HDR then look no further at the latest UHD releases.  I actually watch on a very good TV which has all the best upscaling technology anyway so really going up from HD looks nice to me and sit a few feet away from the screen and everything looks decent so I've no complaints I'm actually a Kodi fan especially when it comes to Cinavia the dreaded Sony watermark protection  Rolleyes
