Hi there. I've been looking fora rwally good program to encode movies onto DVD's but more often I'm coming up against the problem of large files that I can't seem to find the proper software to write them. Does anyone know of any software that would allow me to keep film quality but still be able to convert a 1gig + .mkv, mp4, etc to a standard DVD-r. Not a dual density disc. I've seen quite a few bluray 1080 movies encoded to 650MB files but gave not beenable to find the softwsre that does it. Any yhelp anyone can give me will be very much appreciated. I just bought 2000 standard Dvd-r discs to start writing my movie library to and I´m really hoping it wasn't a huge mistake and that somehow I´ll be able to use them for their initial purpose.

there are two ways to burn video files onto dvd.
either you keep whatever format the files have (mp4, avi, mkv, etcetera) or you convert them to dvd-video format (ifo/bup/vob).
which of the two options are you looking at? i can't really tell from your initial post.

Nope, haven't tried Sony yet and to the other answer, i'm looking to write the movies in DVD format since nine of my TV accesories play mp4, mkv etc. Thanks for the replies and I'll take a look at Sony. I've used Nero, burnquick, divx, all the common burning software but haven't been able to find the software to c o mpres the file size so it'll fit on a standard DVD-R.
