Central Station (1998) - 8/10
Story: An emotive journey of a former school teacher, who write letters for illiterate people, and a young boy, whose mother has just died, in search for the father he never knew. AKA: Central do Brasil Lang: Portuguese | German A beautiful movie that I saw few years back. I think I have a DVD somewhere. And apart from being longer than Titanic, and that the whole movie looks like a painting, AND the storyline becomes a huge bore after an hour.. If you're into that kinda thing, it's actually good. I'm amazed that you've seen it too!

Kurosawa is mainstream, everyone knows him. I have ran, kagemusha, the hidden fortress, rashomon... on dvd, and a lot more downloaded.
A more obscure classic could be Apu's trilogy by Satyajit Ray:
