Is there a way to drastically improve pinter efficiency?

I've got a 990 page document that needs to be printed.   So I'm going to burn through a few ink cartridges and I'm wondering if there's a program that I can install that will improve printer efficiency.

There may or may not still be a "draft" setting that supposedly used less ink.

I looked at the print shops and that's still going to run me close to $100 dollars.  


I've got a draft setting but I'm hoping to find an even more efficient way.

Dot Matrix are super fast also, I once printed out the Jolly Roger's Cookbook using a Dot Matrix and it didn't take too long.

Yep.  Sometimes the old ways are best.  

Ink jet cartridges are an out-and-out scam developed by printer manufacturers to hose out your bank account.  In The Before Time, you could get inexpensive cartridge refill kits.  The manufacturers got around this by installing killer chips on the cartridges.  It isn't uncommon for the chips to activate before a cartridge is even half-empty.
