Iceland's Pirate Party Support Rising
They are more than 40 Pirate Parties around the world, but none have achieved the progresses of that of the Iceland Pirate Party.

In the Icelandic parliamentary election, 2013, the Iceland Pirate Party gained three seats, making it the first Pirate Party in the world to to enter a national parliament.

Over the years, support has been growing for the Iceland Pirate Party. Currently, the party has a estimated total of 1,443 members. Recently, the polls show a strong constant favor for the Pirate Party.

"The Progressive Party, led by Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson, has just 12.2 per cent of the nation’s support, falling from the 24.4 per cent it recorded during the 2013 elections.

The Independence Party, which has been the country’s largest party for decades, has seen its support drop marginally, from 26.7 per cent in 2013 to 23.1 per cent."

2017 is still a long way to go, but if the Iceland Pirate Party still remains strong, they could get a major foothold in the Alþingi(parliament) in the upcoming Icelandic parliamentary election in 2017.

But who knows, if the Pirate Party wins the majority of the parliament, Iceland will become the first country ever, to be ruled by a Pirate Party, thus making it the first "Pirate Country".

The seemingly impossible dream of a country actually supporting piracy, and allowing torrent sites to host their servers inside with protection from international and national law, seems so close now.

Recent polls, have showed many Icelanders are still resisting to joining the EU.

"Kjarninn reports that 50.1% of respondents said they were opposed to Iceland joining the EU, 34.2% supported it, and 15.6% were neither for nor against it. The poll was conducted by Gallup at the behest of Heimssýn, an organization opposed to Iceland joining the EU.

The greatest amount of opposition to accession came from voters of the parties currently in power. 95% of Progressive Party voters are against joining the EU, as are 83% of Independence Party voters.

As always, the highest levels of support for accession came from Social Democrat voters, 78% of whom said they were in favour of Iceland joining the EU. About 66% of Bright Future voters said the same, as did 40% of Pirate Party voters. Only 33% of Left-Greens voters would like to see Iceland join the European Union."

I believe this and the rising support for the Iceland Pirate Party, is a step forward to a world where one who torrents "illegally" can have the freedom to torrent anything, just like how it should be.
Imagine the Prime Minister of Iceland doing a Jack Sparrow cosplay for halloween. Tongue
