Humanoid Woman (custom blu-ray upgrade)
#1
Its a new dawn for Humanoid Woman! One of the better KTMA episodes imo, this episode always made me wish we could get better video quality since it is clear even from the VHS-tape-recording-of-public-access-TV-and-ripped-to-low-bitrate presentation we've been living with for decades that there was some real craft involved in the production.

Some backstory: Originally released in Russian and known as Per Aspera Ad Astra (translated to Through the Thorns to the Stars, for some reason), this is a Soviet as heck movie that ran over 2 hours 20 minutes, and this version of the movie was released on region 2 blu-ray last year. Our boy Sandy Frank got a hold of the movie rights in the 80's and did what he does best... chop it up into nonsense, dub it poorly, and license it for TV... thus was born Humanoid Woman. This Sandy Frank cut of the movie only exists as the KTMA episode and an unofficial low quality bargain bin VHS rip DVD that runs a little over 90 minutes. This DVD seems to come from the same source MST used, but obviously with a little bit more footage on the DVD vs the episode. Syncing up the MST3K audio to the blu-ray like i usually do just wouldn't work since there would be 50 minutes of unriffed movie IN RUSSIAN... so yeah not great.

This is where the fun begins...

I tracked down a copy of the English dub DVD on Amazon and used it as a reference for a frame-by-frame edit of the 142 minute blu-ray, fully recreating the Sandy Frank cut in HD as well as recreating the intro credits referenced in riffs. I then transferred the DVD's English dub to the new HD edit and synced up the MST3K audio to that. I left the original Russian intro in because the effect is really cool and the music slaps.

Since this is a custom edit done by me and you literally can't get this version of the movie anywhere else, I have included the typical "HDmed" version along with a source quality 10GB download as well (should sneak in just below 10GB so you only have to wait for the megaupload timer once). HDmed looks fine but really go for the 10GB high quality if you can. Audio track 1 is the MST3K audio, track 2 is the English dub.

Special thanks goes to tripletap006 as without his gracious hosting, this (or any of my other releases) would not be here for all to enjoy.

Thanks. I don't remember the Riff because I haven't watched any of the KTMA eps in a long time. Looking forward to this one.

If you found a clear, high definition print of Creeping Terror, your search fu is greater than mine. I could find one or the other, but not both. So I found a pretty clear SD video and upscaled it with Topaz. It looks much better than anything I was able to track down.

You did a great job on Humanoid Woman, by the way. I watched it this morning. Smile

The copy i have is from The Creep Behind the Camera blu-ray, not a pristine source by any means but looks pretty good overall. I do appreciate the AI stuff for movies that don't have or won't ever get a blu-ray but I have a bad habit of noticing the artifacts (thanks Digital Foundry) so i'll always go for the HD transfers
