How would I dual boot with Secure Boot in general?
#1
Although anyone here is free to answer, these questions are made for nelly since he has some recent experience in these matters.

nelly, I recall that, in general, you would just disable Secure Boot to get GNU/Linux to run.

Now, if I want a dual boot with any Windows and GNU/Linux normally, what would I do?

Thanks.

The most recent dual-boot set-up i did RX was Ubuntu dual booting with Win 7. Win 7 was the initial O/S install. I then installed Ubuntu alongside it. As you know, during the Ubuntu install, your giving the option to install alongside the current O/S or to use the whole disk.
I gave it 50 G/b's and installed alongside 7.
Once installed, as Ubuntu was the most recent O/S install, that was the "interface" i was given on boot but i had the option to scroll down and boot into 7 if i wanted to.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Now, what about Secure Boot? When installing Ubuntu alongside 7, did you still have to disable Secure Boot, or has Ubuntu taken care of that?

No i had to Disable Secure Boot and Enable Legacy RX

AND THEN Dual boot it, right?

Now tell me, did you have to read up on how to disable dual boot and enable legacy, or did you have to rely on experience?

I apologise for asking stupid questions, but I am considering building a new system, and I have to be sure.

Thanks for answering.

You'll need to snoop around in the BIOS to find both options. It depends on the laptop/PC make and model?

Then how did you find out what to do, for example, how did you find out whether or not you need to enable legacy support in order to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 7?

Because it wouldn't allow it with UEFI for some reason so i enabled legacy.

So it's "trial and error."

Risky.

It's not risky. The worst that can happen is it won't work. Your not altering or modding the BIOS. Your just changing settings which can always be restored.
