1. Do a scrrenshot of the map.

2. Toss it into a paint program (ie. Photoshop) select a thick paintbrush, and mark the course.

I though Photoshop was more of a touch-up program for pictures; Illustrator is the "paint" program.

First, is it an interactive map or just a picture / schematic ? Is this a one-off or do you need to edit/expand/change view later ? What size/definition you want ?
And also think if you want to connect to certain apps, services, and/or devices. What kind of information you want displayed (like time, elevation, gas stations, etc).

Google maps itself has a marking tool, but I never used it. I suppose it's possible to save your annotations and even give links for people to see your work.
If the travel was on mapped roads, you can plot the steps and Google Maps itself will draw the lines for you; in case you need more specific tools, there're apps for biking or trekking - I suggest you see some articles and look for what is tailored to your needs.

Good starting points are WikiMapia, Wiki-Map, OpenStreetMaps.

Illustrator is geared toward 'Vector' graphics, but certainly has paint (bitmap) functions. PS top end and can pretty much do anything. Its on TPB and might as well use it.

One other good choice is Gimp which has Windows ports, and looks alot more like PS these days. Not as sophisticated as PS, but you would need a pHd to be aware of all the differences.

If you can't use a big monitor (like 4K resolution), maybe you wish to RIP - use an enhance/upscale resolution program, some printers and graphics apps have it.
OR: Any map app will work with a collage of map sectors: Capture your screen and scroll, rinse, repeat. Can use a screen capture/recording app for that, plenty of tools to do it (see the favorite tools thread in software).

Sounds like you want a custom design, using a graphics editor (MS Paint for a crude example) is the way to go; specialized mapping apps may be overkill.

.
Maybe this is too simple, but could you not just use LunaPic? No software, all you need is an image.

Note the drawing tool, text tool and all sorts of other picture processing options.

Hi, i think the best it would be a set of plugins added to the software, that simply adds dots from one point to other and connecting them with a line, i am searching something similar for iGO for Android, it would be great if there were such "homemade" plugins to be able to map yourself a distance that has no default roads marked or anything else on it, especially in a forest or dessert/mountains terrain.
