Help with capture card download (Not torrent related)
#1
I want to start this off by saying that yes, I understand that this is not related to torrenting in any way, but I am desperate at this point and figured this community would be knowledgeable about the download of media in general.

My sister is taking part in the musical at her high school, and due to COVID there will be no live audience, but rather they are using a service called onthestage.com to stream the musical for family to watch.

The issue here is that due to copyright issues with the owners of the original intellectual property, families are not being provided with a download of the performance, but instead can stream it during a 24 hour period. While the easy option here would of course be to just film my computer monitor, I was hoping to have a high quality video of the performance.

Which leads me to my question- can anyone point me in the right direction as to how I can record and download this stream. I have no idea what sort of copy protection this service uses, but the URL is onthestage.com if anyone wants to take a look and try to help. I’m considering using a capture card, but am not sure if this is the best course of action and am hoping that someone more knowledgeable can provide me with a solution or just some tips.

Thanks in advance

Try a video downloader.
I use mipony, but there are even browser extensions that should work.

I *believe* HTML5 is the standard, with Flash being deprecated.
Some may use RTMP :

I dislike streaming, but am sure there are others who know more about it.

Obs Support only 8.1 and later witch is not accessible for whole community, by warrior terms.

The answers so far (and probably for the rest of the thread) fall in two categories: stream-downloaders and screen recorders. There are plenty free ones in both categories. I would only go for screen recording if I exhausted all other options...

For downloading almost any stream, youtube-dl does a pretty good job, albeit commandline based. There are also numerous browser extensions for firefox that promise to grab video streams for you. And there is jdownloader, which I have had some success with. RTMPdump is a headache to use, but apparently very efficient if you know your shit (I gave up on it).

Thanks for the great responses everyone. I think I’ll use a video downloader since that is what the majority of you recommended, and if that doesn’t work then I’ll go with the route of using OBS.

@ill88eagle-

You mentioned YouTube-dl, and after reading up about it it seems like it would be a good option, but after checking their website I noticed that onthestage.com isn’t listed in their list of supported sites: http://ytdl-org.github.io/youtube-dl/sup...sites.html

Do you think that is a cause for concern or would I still be good to use it? jdownloader also seems like a good option, that would probably be my second choice.

@BoxerLara

I assume you mean Windows 8.1? If that’s the case then that won’t be an issue
