HDRip or Blu-ray?

I prefer Web-DL, but that's just me.

So do I.

Unless you're getting your movies from YTS, Blu Ray rips can take up a lot of disk space. Web Downloads tend to mitigate size difficulties.

far too many variables render op's question relatively unanswerable.
You have to make personal preference the basis for what quality you are willing to accept.

Size helps but isn't everything.
Closer to the source helps but isn't everything.

I wish to correct this point that was made >
"- the skill of the ripper (all encoding programs come with default settings, which do an OK job for most people. But rippers who take the time to learn can create better quality by adjusting the settings depending on the source material eg. a fast moving action movie benefits from a higher frame-rate compared to a slower paced period drama)"

Frame rate has been fixed at 23.976 / 24 fps since 1930.
Variable framerate encoding should really only be used when encoding source material with hybrid content, ie. a video with both progressive and interlaced elements.. usually found in extras, or documentaries.
Creating frames out of thin air is not a legitimate option in encoding.
Fast moving action sequences benefit from higher bitrate and lower compression when encoding, eg. using a low constant rate factor (crf) setting or high fixed bitrate can help, or the use of 'Zones' to change compression in certain scenes.

Well caught and totally correct.

I did actually mean bitrate. [I didn't even know variable framerate encoding was even possible.]

Both are good for me, i usually download small size such as below 1 gb. Yify and Juggs are my favorite uploaders.
