E.T. the Extraterrestrial - Cinester Theater
#1
Hey folks, I know we have an iRiff thread, but let's face it, ET is a hard enough phrase to search for as it is, and it's easy for stuff to get lost in that long thread without a continually-edited meta-post at the front.

Anyway, I scanned every page of that thread and didn't find that anyone had done a mix of the E.T. riff. It's one of Cintester's first releases, and pretty good, but it is not for the amateur to mix. For one, it suffers from their sync lines being off, but more importantly, the version of the film they riffed, the 20th Anniversary Ed DVD, is just plain out of print. All currently available versions suffer from Spielberg regretting his Lucasing of his film, so theatrical release only.

So... I had to edit the riff track some. There are 2 additional scenes in the 20th Annv AND CGI effects that were added (and one changed line of dialogue). I obviously had to remove the jokes for the extra scenes and resync the riff after each one. I also had to remove a handful of jokes that were directed at changes made in the 20th Annv. Doesn't really cause enough dead air anywhere to notice, but there you are.

All that being said, here are 2 files for you.

My own encode of the bluray and mix of the audio:
E.T. the Extraterrestrial 1080p h265 CQ20RF encode; Riff audio mix and eng subtitles
https://mega.nz/file/CPpHSbqI#L5XtqsVzu8...JVPSrFck34

And then the Cinester theater riff alone edited to sync with the Bluray (and the aforementioned jokes removed) for anyone who wants to make their own mix. There's no sync lines but it should line up exactly with the audio from the blu ray.

I would first be fascinated to know how the VHS differs from the Bluray! I thought they were both the same Theatrical release and the DVD was the oddball.

Hello

@ John

There is alot of little changes thru out the movie  biggers one off top of my head is when the ploice are chasing the kids and as they cme down the hill and the plice block them in the DVD and Bluray there holding walkie talkies and pointing at the boys in the VHS Version there holding shotguns pointing at them, let alone all the little CGI "touch ups" if you can call it that , and the line changes different sound fx and different music que points I could go on

Give me a few to get it upload  .........

And thanks in advance to syncing these up

The blu ray version features the original, unedited version that we all grew up on as well as the "special edition."

Actually, guys, this was my impression first when I set out to sync this movie but it is not the case. I had to do way more research on this than I originally planned but... once I start a project...

VHS - Theatrical release
20th Anniversary DVD (and theatrical re-release) - 2 extra scenes, extra CGI throughout, Walkie-talkies, cut scene of a shotgun, changed dialogue from "terrorist" to "hippie"... etc.
Blu-Ray - back to Theatrical ONLY. No CGI, guns are back, etc.

This was the problem with syncing this riff. Cinester did the riff for the expanded, enhanced, CGI version and currently, only the Theatrical version is for sale in any format. Spielberg apparently regretted tinkering with the film in the first place and so only the original theatrical release is available anymore.

Hence why I had to edit OUT jokes referencing CGI and cut jokes from scenes that aren't in the bluray anymore. Start time aside, the edited riff mp3 I uploaded above should sync up just fine to the VHS version as well.

If I am mistaken and anyone can find an HD version of the Special Edition of the film - that would actually be preferable for the riff! Not for watching the movie alone... but for the riff at least!

Hello

@ John

Ok , so i have uploaded the VHSRip

Might be kinda pointless now  ......... however if you all want that RETRO FEEL  here it is

https://mega.nz/file/qcESyYTD#OcSs2aFx02...XHwA-_SRe8

Which brings me to a point , CGI editing aside , i think making some movie in Bluray format ruins that movies more then helps them a few examples IMO is a few of the Friday the 13th movies, House (1984) & (1977) for that matter ...... funny most I'm can think of ATM are horror movies

Hey not to date myself too thoroughly but I am a child of the 80s and a retro feel is something I am 100% on board for. I won't make a new upload here but I'm going to download your copy to check out for use. Thank you!

Hello

@ John

So here is how Awesome i am  ..... are you ready  ??

Here is the E.T. Special Edition (the out of print version)

E.T. "Special Edition"
https://archive.org/download/e.t.theextr...ion%5D.mp4

Here is a Few Details on this edition .......

An extended version of the film, dubbed the "Special Edition" (currently out of circulation), including altered dialogue and visual effects, premiered at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on March 16, 2002; it was released on home media six days later. Certain shots of E.T. had bothered Spielberg since 1982, as he did not have enough time to perfect the animatronics. Computer-generated imagery (CGI), provided by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), was used to modify several shots, including ones of E.T. running in the opening sequence and being spotted in the cornfield. The spaceship's design was also altered to include more lights. Scenes shot for but not included in the original version were introduced. These included E.T. taking a bath and Gertie telling Mary that Elliott went to the forest on Halloween. Mary's dialogue, during the offscreen argument with Michael about his Halloween costume, was altered to replace the word "terrorist" with "hippie". Spielberg did not add the scene featuring Harrison Ford, feeling that would reshape the film too drastically. He became more sensitive about the scene where gun-wielding federal agents confront Elliott and his escaping friends and had them digitally replaced with walkie-talkies.

At the premiere, John Williams conducted a live performance of the score. The new release grossed $68 million in total, with $35 million coming from Canada and the United States. The changes to it, particularly the escape scene, were criticized as political correctnessPeter Travers of Rolling Stone wondered, "Remember those guns the feds carried? Thanks to the miracle of digital, they're now brandishing walkie-talkies. ... Is this what two decades have done to free speech?" Chris Hewitt of Empire wrote, "The changes are surprisingly low-key ... while ILM's CGI E.T. is used sparingly as a complement to Carlo Rambaldi's extraordinary puppet."[110]South Park ridiculed many of the changes in the 2002 episode "Free Hat".

For posterity: I have to take down the mega file above cause of space limitations but you can find a new link on this post elsewhere on the forum: https://pirates-forum.org/Thread-ASKING-...#pid302116
