Deadly Prey aspect ratio

I thought I had a bad copy of Deadly Prey because the Rifftrax version is at a square aspect ratio that doesn't even look like 1.33:1 (I didn't measure it) and the movie is on Blu-ray at 1.78:1.  When I went on the Rifftrax website I was surprised to find that they sold an HD High version so I purchased it.  Their HD High version is at the same square aspect ratio.

Deadly Prey is a great riff but the aspect ratio of their video looks way too tight to me even if 1.78:1 was just a soft matte.  

Did anyone ever do a new version of this at the proper aspect ratio?

That's because their version is just an upscaled VHS transfer. I have no idea how licensing deals work with this sort of thing so I assume that version is the easiest for them to get the rights to.

Even the budgetbits version which says it's a BluRay rip is a 1.33:1 ratio. I doubt you're gonna get anything different until the rights holders go back and do a full remaster....but don't hold your breath on that

You're right. I was looking at the sequel Deadliest Prey which is on Blu-ray at 1.77:1. This is in smallish print on Amazon's sales page for the Deadly Prey Blu-ray:

they missed out on not calling the second one Deadlier Prey.

I'm eagerly awaiting the Stranger Things prequel, Strange Things.
