Hi guys.
Can somebody help me with this issue?
Four months ago I bought a DELL Inspiron 15 3521 with windows 8.1. As well as you know the windows 8.1 are the worst of all windows versions in aesthetics and security. They are snitch and only snitch.
Visiting the DELL site I can only find support for windows 8.1. Nowhere to find support information for Linux for this model.
I assembled all my courage (as an old MacUser) and formated the disk via Linux Mint installer, which, Linux Mint, also finally I installed. And now begins the thriller. Both graphics cards are continuously active and so is the cooling fan, resulting a VERY short battery life and overload for the power supply.
Of course the power supply is dead now. I can't take guarantee support from Dell due to unsupported operating system, which caused the damage.
I am planning to repair the damage with my expenses, but I still don't like the windows 8.1. I prefer to abandon the laptop if it is to keep windows 8.1 as my operating system.
So, can anyone give to me an advice on how to install a Linux version compatible to DELL Inspiron 15 3521?
Thank you

Try Fedora. Running on my Dell Inspiron 15 3542 i5 two months ago. All work out the box from the first day.

Apology for delayed "I thank you" for the assistance.
In the meantime the power supply went off (the battery exhausted and I can't even login) and I will give it to DELL for repair. The next step will be the installation of Fedora.
Thanks again.

Assuming that the lappy shipped with 8 and was upgraded to 8.1, did you disable Secure Boot and Enable Legacy from BIOS before trying to nuke the piece of shit that 8/8.1 is?
8/8.1 is shipping with the UEFI/GPT BIOS firmware more times than not. A little reading on my behalf r.e. Linux ==>> UEFI/GPT throws up almost as many issues as it does for native M$ users trying to get rid of 8/8.1

Dear -nelly-,
I do not want to express some complaint for the laptop because it did never work regularly, due to operating system. It came to me with 8.1 preinstalled. From DELL the answer on my complains was: " the most we can do for you is, to buy a license for win7 and then ask for our support, nothing more. No Linux support for this particular machine". Of course I know they sell this model with Ubuntu 12.04 preinstalled, but for some reason they refuse to support the laptop if it comes with win8.1 preinstalled.
And YES -nelly-, I "teased" BIOS because it refuses to accept any other OS installer without changes of the BIOS settings, from UEFI to Traditional (or something like this). Worst of all is that I can't install Linux as a second OS WITH 8.1, because 8.1 destroys the GRUB and any effort to run Linux in "native mode" freezes the laptop. Only "hard restart" can solve the problem in these cases, to return in 8.1 of course.
Today I contact them for "24 months on site support" but... the terms of guarantee were violated, so...
Have a nice day -nelly-
