Chinese Exercise Books
#1
Here's my dilemma: I've been speaking Mandarin and Cantonese as well as trying to read as much written Chinese as I can, but I've always been reminded that I long way off from just being knowledgeable with them.

Here's my plan: I've been searching in local Chinatown bookstores for children's exercise books, books that are assigned to children who have just begun learning languages. I am talking about kindergarten to first grade level children.

I know, I know, probably too extreme, but I have to start somewhere.

The other day when I entered a literature section of a thrift store, I saw a book by Liu Xiaobu, the whistleblower who died in prison for subversion (at least that's what the Chinese media tells us) and wanted to buy it. It was dirt cheap, like $4.00 Canadian. I wanted to get that, but when a friend came with me, he said I won't learn that way, so I had to put it back on the shelf.

So here's my question: where do I get e-book versions of early exercise books? I can't find them in bookstores, I can't find them online, and I certainly can't find them in thrift stores. I'm not looking for Pinyin/Jyutping-happy books since I really don't need them. I just want books where I can print characters so I can practise writing them. I can worry about the meaning later, but I just need to put a face to the character.

If you have advice on how to start, I'm interested in hearing about that as well.l

Thanks!

Search
chinese calligraphy
visual chinese
at TBP . Or LibGen.

They may be helpful.

I know that there are Chinese textbook publishers for college level, and assume they would also have student readers.

A good place to start maybe Alibaba.
There is
https://www.chinesebookonline.com/

If there is an expat community near you, check yard and estate sales. Unless it is not appropriate for the culture.

On Amazon is
https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Book...ooks/69803

Good luck!

PS:
On TPB search in OTHER rather than OTHER\BOOKS as there should be some video tutorials on the subject also.
