Cannot Seed my own Distribution
#1
Hi all,

I followed these directions to upload my torrent: https://pirates-forum.org/Thread-2010-Ho...g-uTorrent

this resulted in (what I believe to be) a successful upload here: https://thepiratebay.org/description.php?id=73854874

To start seeding it I downloaded the magnet link from the TPB page and directed the download folder to be the original folder I used to create the torrent file. However, as you can see in this screenshot, I cannot seed the torrent for others.

Is this not proper procedure? What are the steps I should take to get this working? Thank you!

happened to me too, on my end i noticed it was utorrent 2.2.1 itself having some sort of issue. then i had decided to download qbittorrent and i was able to seed my own torrent.

i thought it was initially trackers, or bad .torrent or even its version but it was just utorrent messing up. i hope this helps

uTorrent was good some 10+ years ago. There are people who will still defend it and tell you its because you didnt revert and do the correct register hacks etc. In the meantime there are plenty alternatives both more lightweight and actually functional without being intrusive. qbittorent is a good pick if you want something that feels like classic utorrent. But this is a windows problem. Mac and linux users enjoy the luxury of Transmission Smile

Per your suggestion I downloaded qbittorrent and i'm having the same issue as before Undecided

I tried opening the magnet link in Transmission too.. Same issue.. Undecided

Am I correct in thinking you're supposed to download the torrent from TPB and direct it's download folder to the original file folder used for creation of the torrent?

The tutorial didn't mention that step but idk how else you're supposed to seed your distribution.

Transmission is actually my usual client haha. I think its been available on windows for several years now. I just tried starting seeding through Transmission and I'm running into the same issue as utorrent.

try using the magnet link from your post in TPB and using in qbittorrent, and directing the download folder to the original yeah

edit: if it works this can probably also work in transmission and so on, but probably not on utorrent

It's not supposed to look like in the post image, When I do this it start's "Checking" and after it's done it's just seeding looks like your client's trying to download the file maybe you do not really point it to the folder your files are in? It's supposed to overlap the folder you point it to should have the files that were made into the torrent file.

Yes, when I open the magnet torrent file in a client (utorrent, qbittorrent, transmission) I direct the "download folder" to the folder I used to create the original torrent file uploaded to TPB. No luck :/

Why does TPB only have the magnet option? Didn't TPB use to offer both magnet and standard torrent download options?

Just a sanity check. Here's qBittorrent's menu when I open the magnet link:

I am indeed directing the download folder to the original folder I used to create the torrent.

And when I click 'OK' it just stalls out like this:

Any ideas what's wrong?

What did you do with the original .torrent file you created?

Use that, the magnet cant get any torrent metadata without any seeds.

- remove the torrent from the list (NOT the files, make sure)
- open your original .torrent file you uploaded to TPB, set the directory
- then click the magnet link, it should tell you it already exists, and if you want to add the new trackers from the magnet, yes

try that

Thank you for the suggestion. I did as you instructed. I merged the trackers from the magnet link to the original torrent in qBittorrent. Unfortunately this method isn't working either. The status is listed as "Stalled". I've tried to "Force Resume" it but that just brings me back to the false "Downloading" status.

Your Selected Folder is probably one-level lower than it should be. Most common error.

Start again.
Let's say you use qbittorrent.
You are not going to be clicking any magnet.

(1) First, clear any existing tasks for this torrent.
Right-click torrent -> Remove - uncheck 'Also permanentaly remove files' (DONT DELETE YOUR ACTUAL FILES).

(2) Now Create a Fresh torrent + Seed it.
Tools -> Torrent Creator
-> Select File / Select Folder (if you are uploading a folder full of files, chose Select Folder)
-> Check Start seeding immediately
-> Uncheck Private torrent
-> Add trackers if you wish
-> Create torrent
close the window.
Now you should have a task in your qBit which shows 100 %
Ensure the Hash of the created torrent matches that you have uploaded to TPB.
Else, re-upload this new torrent and request for deletion of the older one via your Account Issues Thread.

Still not working ?
Try once again.
Post images of General and Content tabs (lower-panel) in qBit + Windows File Explorer snap where file/files are stored.
Lots of tutorials on the Net. Try them too.
