Can someone explain to me like I'm 5 how to hook up a CDN to a website?

I just heard about CDN today and I've spent the last few hours learning what it is.

But DuckDuckGo isn't showing me any tutorials or other information on how to use one.    I could use a little push in the right direction.

Content delivery network (CDN) refers to a geographically distributed group of servers which work together to provide fast delivery of Internet content.

A CDN allows for the quick transfer of assets needed for loading Internet content including HTML pages, javascript files, stylesheets, images, and videos. The popularity of CDN services continues to grow, and today the majority of web traffic is served through CDNs, including traffic from major sites like Facebook, Netflix, and Amazon.

A properly configured CDN may also help protect websites against some common malicious attacks, such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks.

There are a number of free and paid CDN services out there. But before you can choose one, you need to know why you need one, or if you even really need one.

Getting one simply because they exist isn't a good starting point. I have yet to host a site that needed one.
