Well, so what you're saying is, while there are drugs that can ease the pains of Cancer and AIDS, nothing will do for arthritis.

That's not what I want to hear.

Not saying that...Just that those meds available may be weaker than you think... The good stuff is now extremely hard to get because of the addiction factor. If you can get a Dr to write a script, go for it... Tylenol and Motren is not all its cracked up to be on the bad days.

Tylenol does ZERO for inflammation. Motrin and advil are the same med, ibuprofen. While that is an anti-inflammatory, it is extremely weak and very hard on the GI tract

All right, thanks guys.

Sorry if I sound accusatory, LZA, it's just that it's a pain in the ass that she has this condition. Since the beginning of the new year, it's something we lost sleep over.

I don't expect pity or charity, if that's what you're thinking.

EDIT: In this day and age, we have the Internet, we have people going on the moon, but we don't have treatment for arthritis. Something as absurd as this doesn't sound right.

Perhaps I'll make something happen, I don't know, but I'll make something happen somehow some way.

There some anti-inflammatories that kinda work. I've been taking meloxicam (aka Mobic) for many years now. It took the edge off for a long time but I finally got to the point that I now take narcotic painkillers just to function

That's the problem with arthritis drugs.  Since it is a degenerative disease (other than the rare form I had), the body develops a resistance to them eventually and you have to switch to another, and generally more expensive, drug.  BITD, the standard practice was to start a patient out on Naprosyn.  That one worked reasonably well for me, although it does not totally eliminate the pain, nor does it prevent the worst pain attacks.

I know a couple of guys at the gym who swear by tenbolone for their arthritic pain.

LOL, her arthritis may go away, but I think there'll be a whole other bag off issues if she took that!

Could i ask, how was it initially diagnosed as OA ?
What was prescribed ?

Am trying to understand the 'since the beginning of the year' part. Was it a pre-existing condition, then ?
Was an Orthopedic Doc consulted ? X-ray / MRI ?

She started feeling pain in her joints, so she had her body checked up.

X-Rays [and bone density scans] were involved.

She did mention that her family had a history of gout, but was not diagnosed of it.

I'd show you the documents, but she is uneasy about that, sorry.

No doctors/specialists that were referred to told her anything useful on how to treat the condition, so she is suffering alone and, even though she shouted, they fell on deaf ears.

Actually, I was wrong... but not by much... they just told her to take pain killers.

The wonders of socialised medicine.

I'd still stick to specialist doctors. First determine the cause of the pain and have it explained to you.
X-Ray / MRI should be able to clearly determine if there is OA related damage.

Meanwhile you can read up on the anatomy and physiology of knee joint and causative factors. Just in case you already haven't.
Handbook of Hip & Knee Joint Replacement by Robert Holland is a good reference.

Look for any Ayurvedic treatment centers. I had good results with that. Physiotherapy done at home.

Some useful TV shows:
1) Medical Frontiers (NHK World).
2) In Good Shape (DW.com)
