That's why I asked if you were a patriot, mister.
If I was born in a bad place, I'd be the first to say.
just happens that my country is awesome (although boring)

When Kim Jong-un reaches the next level of insanity, patriotism will show you how to stop worrying and love the bomb.

I don't see how Kim is a madman but the rest of the authoritarian mob that runs the planet can hold the nuclear gun on humanity's head, without a question about their mental health. Let's face it guys, for millenia earth has been the subject of unscrupulous, power-tripping psychopaths who have set in place all-reaching systems of control, that will soon be consolidated and operated 100% by machines. China continues to execute 10.000+ people every year and the world continues to do business with it, Egypt just today condemned 500, torture, rape, grand financial theft is rampant everywhere, Africa suffers from disease and illiteracy which technologically shouldn't exist, long-term oil and nuclear spills are becoming the industrial norm, biodiversity is being devoured by synthetic alchemy...the list of nastiness goes on forever. Putting things into their true perspective, dictatorial boogeyman caricatures like Kim should be the least of everyone's worries.

Hi. I'm not saying that patriotism is only used by dictatorships, many western countries use it in order to get things done (Irak war for example), but communist dictatorships (Cuba, North Korea, etc) are paradigmatic in the use of propaganda and censure. I'm not saying that Bush is better than Kim, or smarter, but nuclear war is never an option for big countries (China will never use them). On the other side, North Korea regime has nothing to lose if things go south, and maybe they don't want to go to hell alone, and I guess the chain of command starts and ends in the same person, which is inherently dangerous.

Are we still debating this? Really!?

*Because we KNOW the "big guys" NEVER resort to mass murder...EVER!* ( I wonder how many more million lives need to be mangled by the psychopaths' war machines for humans to learn)

The chain of command itself is the danger; who sits at the top (or indeed IF there is a top) is beyond the point.

regimes and evil dictatorship pointed to some countries is decided by the current Great War champions. accept it
the only chance to change the fact and turn the tables to others for the privileges for saying "you are evil dictators","you are enemy of freedom", "you are goddamn bearded terrorist" is by another Great War that will resolves with another side come out as the Champions.
other than that the rest of the world must accept this fact

I think the world can do well without patriotism.

In fact, patriots are very dangerous people.

connor17, the ball is behind you. China is a Communist dicatorship!

To this day, it has point its missiles pointed at Taiwan. The reason that they still haven't fired at them is that the USA is currently backing Taiwan. China will not dare to do that and are sucking up to the States.

Patriotism is bad for peoples that developing remote flights droid with capability of flight that can reach thousands of miles range undetected by radars and have tactical nukes warhead on it's hell belly

Patriotism is needed when thousands of white ass with this age most advanced automatic riffles and a grenade launcher that can shoot from the corner of a wall is telling you to do things their way

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” -- Hermann Goering
