Are you legally prohibited from having "Plus" accounts?

I have been using TPB for a long time. I used to buy your apparel and other items to raise money.

I have noticed your ad quality has declined. I'm wondering if you are legally allowed to have paid accounts to provide bonus features, no ads, boolean searching, etc?

I would pay a small monthly fee for those kinds of features.

Certain governments, and the multi-national corporations which own them, would have it that we are not legally allowed to do anything.

The only reason we don't have plus accounts is because we don't believe in treating people differently based on how much they can afford to pay.

I understand the principles. The reason I posted this is because there are indications on your blog and elsewhere that you might need money to cover hosting and administrative costs. At some point you could have to weigh those things against each other.

The way I was imagining it was that you wouldn't take anything away from the unregistered experience of using the site. And, hopefully, the plus account wouldn't be promoted or pushed onto any users (which might be legally dangerous anyway). But, if certain users wanted to "support" the website on a monthly basis (like people do with patreon), you could give them benefits, such as no page redirects, better search abilities, or other things.

You have one user who would help.

The offer (and the suggestion) are appreciated, but I don't expect we will go down that path.

I like the idea above. It sets TPB out to be different by not having greed.

Off topic posts trashed.

Members who wish to insult each other, and post utter bollocks and aidz, can do so in The Void.

Stick to the topic, or don't post.

I don't think there has been any premium memberships ever in the torrenting world other than ratio sites and donation sites.

EDIT: Even with those, preferential treatment is still limited.

Many streaming sites and torrent sites in my country offer premium access with faster speeds and/or no ads, in my eyes it turns a site into a "Product" that they try to sell and got that feeling that they don't really care about those who don't pay.

I think reputation of site is more worth than couple bucks from premium accounts.

Those who don't want ads use adblock, those who wants to help use donation.

This simplicity makes this site so great. Hope it does not change.
