I tried to add the meaning of life to the movie folder but I do not have permission. The bad news is it's not. Or it's really well hidden. "No file that small has a cloaking device."

Could be a case of Google's algorithm hiding the file. Thanks for the heads up. I can zip it and rename it a bit. That should work.

If you zipped and renamed, it's not showing up for me. Still just the subs. I don't need a copy, just being That Guy. Some of these flicks have commentaries (what with this bein' a forum about 'em), a classic being the one for [Monty Python movie] where it's just like another person there with you, not a regular commentary. I love [Monty Python movie]! Brilliant. Any commentaries floating around out here?

Ask me how to defend yourself against an attacker armed with a banana.
Having enjoyed many commentaries I can share a few ideas. One that I don't have is hilarious for about 5 minutes, then worth switching off. Its Arnold Schwarzegger on his own. He just points out "There's me, jumping out of that truck" or "She intends to sabotage the installation". Maybe he thought he was doing a track for the visually impaired! Trace and Joel did one for the crappy movie The Heat, where they really let their hair down. They're just chatting and having a lot of fun. They knew the director or something. I have separate audio tracks for 2001:A Space Odyssey with the two main characters. 2 different Apocalypse Nows both featuring only the director - though the separate Heart of Darkness doco is possibly a better starting point. A great one with Zardoz where the director/writer laments what he made. He describes it as "a farrago". Pretty honest. Got Legends of the Fall, Strange Days and The Death of Stalin. The Death of Stalin is such a great movie and there are 3 people pointing what works and providing a natural laugh track. They clearly loved making the film. The theme of a Soviet (Russian) leader whose entourage is too terrified to be honest with, is appropos. All the other commentaries I have are built into the movie. Switch audio track to hear. 12 Monkeys with Terry Gilliam. Dark City with director. Dog Day Afternoon with director. Donnie Darko with writer and another. Most if not all Futurama episodes have a commentary with 2 or more people - the voice actors or writers. Hellraiser 1, 2 and 3 with a total of 5 commentaries. The Aviator with Scorcese. At the risk of sharing a whole lot of info that might not interest you, i'll stop there. I have possibly 5 times as many as i've mentioned. With rare exception these are people paid to be 'interesting' while they watch the movie. Not the same as riffing. And [Monty Python Movie] is probably funnier/more enlightening than some. There was once a site where you could get these DVD commentaries. Turns out no-one held copyrights on the commentary tracks. The site faded away with the lack of new ones. They generally don't do them any more, especially in the Netflix era.

As far as I'm concerned the creme de la creme of commentary tracks is the Spinal Tap track where the guys do the entire thing in character. It's every bit as hilarious as the original film. If you haven't checked it out, ya gotta.

Commentaries are generally sold as part of a package and don't need a separate copyright. (Except this problematic atrocity.) Commentaries are still being recorded (I just checked the new Spider-Man and Scream movies and Scream has commentary) just not as often. More likely, the site you frequented just stopped getting updated by its creator. I've seen multiple commentary sites, even a clever one on YouTube. We even had a fun thread here that included my favorite commentary tracks. |
