1st Sorry for my ignorance but believe here I can get some enlightnment. I was reading other post here in regard privacy and VPN. Someone ask about encryption and was recomended to get TrueCrypt, so I read and gave me more ?? in regard how it works and/or how to use it correctly...ect ??

TrueCrypt is no longer secure and is discontinued.

Anyhow, is there anything at all where I can get my PC Encrypted but at the same time when I open or turn on my PC I'm the only one who be able to see everything "normal" without the need to: enter a psw every single time or if I have some files and/or when, I would like to have access then I won't need to enter another psw (basically for everything I do). What I mean is: my PC is encrypted for anyone outside but no for me. Also something I can get where everytime I use the internet, browsing, emails... "anything" and if there is/are someone trying to "see" or "spy" on me then the only thing they see is a bunch of 000 + 111 aka encryption ?, this way will be all the time... is this is how it works ? been reading but sadly I don't speak geek lanuage (no disrespect), it is why I'm asking for any help, to protect my self and with some real privacy gain some peace of mind, please ?

Apogolize for my typo, English is 2nd language... :-)

If you're on windows then there is BitLocker but I won't recommend it nor the operating system it works on.

On the other hand on linux using dm-crypt and cryptsetup you can setup full disk encryption which encrypt all disk partitions and each partition. To decrypt the disk you can you a password or a key-file on a usb or both also as your /boot partition can't be encrypted you can have it in a usb so if someone doesn't have the usb with the /boot partition he/she/it won't be able to boot the laptop.

Note: Full disk encryption is not an easy task or topic so it will need reading and understanding of how things tick. Have fun.

Thanks for the info... now, sadly I'm running Vista 64 HP and is not laptop, is a Tower... about 5 yr old 4 core, 8 gig Ram, 2.2 Ghz, Amd... maybe this will help. On the other hand, you mentioned about Linux (it is open source= free system ?), this mean that it is better system than windows ? or more secure ?

I have 3 Disk and 2 are for DL's ...ect what can I do ? (Windows Vista 64)

By reaserching several posts here should I ?: 1st get TOR (for general browsing), later a Private VPN and Encryption Software ? paid or free ? for any data I have in my PC... am I correct ? is there are any info in regard a "key-file on a usb" and Encryption" for Windows Vista ?... sound interesting, in this case do I need 2 usb ? one for Boot and the 2nd for all psw files ? can anyone be able to post some links with those info, plese ?

Sorry I add so may ?? , just learning wile try to find a solution, in Chinese... lol

Linux is the kernel not an operating system by itself but yes linux based operating systems are generally free as in freedom not free as in free beer and are open sourced.

The thing is that full disk encryption only protects you when the device is off as when it is on everything is there for anyone to inspect and modify.

Have a read at this to have a better idea of what is possible, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm-...ire_system

Thanks !! will read...

At the same time, Kernel is: the mose basic program that any PC needs so the OC will be able to read or function ? in another words what is a kernel... ? (as I said beafore and still apologize I'm some kind NEW at this so, please have some patience w/me).

Ys ago 5-6 a friend introduce me to Linux think was Ubuntu and I understand that I was able to download it and use it for free ? as free beer, he explained the meaning of open source as freedom to work on it and together as the people (which is an exelent idea), but the concern or fear is that as you notice I'm not comp savvy (but fast learner) and Linux or GNU/Linux is an open source and definetly I do not speak geek (no disrespect), it isn't easier for any hacker to hack my PC if I'm using Linux ? because is an open source system ?

If I'm correct with what it is a kernel and I'm using Windows Vista; does my PC allready have some other kind of sytem programend (not Linux) in my PC ? (the kernel) and can I then be able to add or switch into Linux ? if is better, as more able to secure it ?

If I'm able to get.. GNU/Linux (if I'm correct) it is pay or free ? and what will happen with my current kernel in my PC ? (my PC was boughten at Best Buy-Gateway)...

Again, sorry for all the extra ?? as I said need help and enlightment, and you had been VERY helpful, so any lincks w/info are highly appreciated :-)

Also, Thank you so much for all your time, effort, patience and help !!
