A question about actions taken by the Windows 10 Firewall by default
#1
I bought a new PC, an antiquated one, but one that I can see what Windows 10 Pro can do extensively.

It's got WIndows 10; you read it right. I don't know what got to me when doing that, but we'll get through it.

Well, my question is: Windows Defender Firewall is install because i want to know how it works. However, I am petrified as to changing it, so I left the public and private firewalls as they are. I don't know what I can do wrong, but I do have this question: if I leave the settings the way they are in Windows 10 Pro, enabled no less, would the firewalls do their job just the way they are meant to?

Get back to me as soon as possible.

EDIT: Along with that request (no, it's not a command or an order), I believe my question coming out of this first post is: for those who trust Windows Defender with their lives, do you just leave the work to the software, thinking that it will spontaneously do everything? I have no programs to block from phoning home as I have no pirated software installed that I would want to deny Internet access from, and I share a household with another person, one that I trust with my very life.

Therefore, the question is, what would happen if I leave the settings the way they are and not alter them? By "the way they are," I mean don't disable them.

Sorry guys, I am very technically inept. I knew I should have taken funeral services in college instead of computer programming.

What are your expectations?

Speaking for malware/spayware, Windows Defender does a good job at preventing viruses as long as you don't blindly run any executable you download. It's marketing hype that you need an additional AV nowadays.

I remember few years ago I used to run a Windows 7 with Windows Defender only. Did it for around 2 years. I'd installed Bitdefender from time to time to check if my PC got malware. Every time the tests were negative. Given that I implicitly assume the AV+Firewall coming with Windows is good enough to keep you away from viruses, providing you don't run any executable shit you download from internet.

I'd leave them the way they are

Not much, only that they do what it says "on the tin."

You're right, I don't.

Install Windows Firewall Control.
It's a freeware software that uses the Windows Firewall and it gives you some features that paid software have, like ask you if you wish a certain app should connect to the internet or not

As I regard M$ products *as* malware I disable their entire 'security' services on my Win machines.
As well as any other damned 'service' I dont not actually need.

I can click on live boogers with no effects. RDP is disabled!

If a booger sneaks in I can spot it quickly on my task manager, shut it down, boot to Linux, remove it Boot back to Win and restore registry via ERUNT (which is set to run at every boot).

I have a PCTools firewall here that I run when installing stuff, but turn off with my VPN which it for some reason tries to block certain connections. And a scanner that I use on warez programs.

I get 'hit' about once a year, and it only takes about 20 minutes of time to clean manually.

Advice: Fully arm your browser. Its a primary vector point.

Remember that M$ crap is designed with backdoors since they think they own your desktop (via 'license').
And if they can get in so can Yigor in Kiev.
