A multithreaded audio batch encoder
#1
I found this old script that I made back in 2012, and spent the past couple of days cleaning it up.

https://github.com/linux4ever07/scripts/...c2lossy.pl

This script is a multithreaded audio batch encoder. It encodes FLAC albums to lossy codecs / formats. It's pretty fast. I was thinking of maybe using it to transcode some of my FLAC library and upload it to TPB, if anyone's even interested in such things as MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis and Opus anymore (now that HDD space has become cheaper and more abundant).

The settings for each codec are hard-coded into the script and it's not possible to choose bitrate or quality at run-time, but I did my best to set sane defaults. I want to comply as much as possible with scene rules, but it's been a while since I looked into this. The reason for using hard-coded defaults is I want to avoid having to think when running it, or type anything I don't need to.

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for better defaults for any of the codecs. I skimmed through the man pages but I may have missed something. I want the audio quality to be as good as possible, without unnecessarily sacrificing disk space.

Ever since I started putting my scripts on GitHub about a year ago, I've been slowly going through the scripts I made over the years. The goal is to put them all on GitHub, but clean up and improve them first.
