oh c'mon, this is totally disingenuous and a strawman to boot. the people who don't see the appeal of nu-MST3K are not the same ones clamoring for new stuff. i don't want new mst3k, period. i don't want it for the same reasons i don't want new episodes of bonanza or family ties or any other old property who's time has passed. that's a legit opinion, as valid as your own opinion is.
i'm glad you're all excited. i'm hoping it turns out awesome! let's be kind to each other, not get personally hurt over the decisions of a bunch of people none of us knows personally. why not limit things to thoughts on Joel's business decisions, etc? there's simply no need for personal comments about other fans.

I'm always interested in more MST3K, but only if it has the feel and fun of the original. I think Season 11 came close, but then nose dived in the wrong direction. And now this, more money, more changes, and yet further from the original. Did you guys know they are going to be taping with multiple casts back and forth and it's going to be made completely remotely? Bleh.

That I didn't know. They're still using Jonah and Baron and everyone from season 11 as well? I feel like them recording their lines remotely for The Return really contributed to the disingenuine feeling of that whole series run. I'd like to read up more on this - where do they talk about it?

It's not a strawman when I've literally encountered people who want more MST3K but don't appreciate how it's being done now. It's okay that *you* don't want more MST3K, and of course it's a "legit opinion" but why bother coming into a place where people are interested and/or excited about new episodes and raining on the parade? And then acting as though it's shocking when it gets called out?
Also the difference between the shows you mentioned and this is that the creator and original creative voice of the franchise is literally in charge of its future right now. It isn't like George Lucas selling off to Disney, it's literally the guy who created the show doing what he wants to do. Different writers and different cast, sure, but the show has always shifted creative forces around, since the beginning. To some people, "nu-MST3k" is anything after Weinstein left, or anything after Joel left, or anything after Frank or Trace left. Do you want or need to hear them coming around and asking "why keep going, what's the appeal?" Because I don't.

If you saw the last Mads movie, they had Kevin on and someone asked if any of them were involved in the new MST efforts. If you listened to them, they all said no and it sounded like they didn't want anything to do with it. The whole thing comes off as a Joel vanity project. He wants to keep it going and everyone else has moved on. So long as there are bad movies, there will be riffing, that's burned into our collective consciousness now, but that doesn't mean it has to be MST3K, or that it should be. That ship has sailed. MST3K was a single moment in time at a specific point in history. I don't know that the format even works anymore. It's why the first thing I said when I saw the initial Kickstarter push was "they're doing Rifftrax". This comes off as the constant Hollywood reboot machine. Maybe it's time to stop and let history be history.

I think you're reading personal issues that they have with the production or with Joel or with the old guard as some kind of indictment of the entire enterprise.
I'm personally just tired of people who have negative opinions on something barging into a place where people are gathered to talk about that thing in a positive light, and just HAVE to make sure EVERYONE knows how much they don't like it.
No one cares if you don't like it. Don't watch it, just quit bothering everyone else.

Producer Ivan Askwith has clarified a few times that they’ll be able to film with 2-3 cast members at a time, so it won’t all be remote.

I enjoyed the livestream of Hobgoblins. So glad they're back in action. I've seen the second crew (Emily et al) and been underwhelmed before. This time I could see they had some magic. Great stuff.
More chances to enjoy as they're doing another five in the coming days!

Geez. I don't see what your guys' deal is. They are doing a great job big time!
Amen. Bill I though was sub-par as Crow, but in the more recent rifftrax I've seen, he's hysterical!
