RE: Windows Vista ISO, DVD+r or -r?
I would encourage you away from "black edition" and "gamer edition" torrents, at they are known to often contain malware and viruses (not every time but a lot of times). All they did to it is disable some service, and maybe remove some things with nlite anyway.
You can format partition during the install process with the vista disk. Set your CD/DVD drive as first in boot order within your bios, and insert the disk after you have burned with with imgburn, nero, or some other tool. The disk will boot, load, and then you will select the language. After that it will show you all the drives in your computer, and you can create partitions with "new" and format them. My advice would be to back up any files you want to save on another drive if possible, completely arise the drive with XP on it, and format the whole drive in one partition and install. This will give you the least grief. |

As far as plus R or minus R...
plus R is more reliable than minus R... I have both, I use the minus R for whatever I can... because I want to save my minus R until I really need them for reliability... The plus R allows you to rewrite onto a disk and the information will not crash on the disk... the minus R you can write to it once and if you write to it again, you're liable to have trouble... it better be info you can afford to lose if you do that with minus R. I believe the minus R is more compatible with older stuff... not everything can do plus R... it is more advanced... although if you have stuff that can read plus R... go with the plus R when you buy... you'll be glad you did. |

If you look at the media drive it will say what formats it supports. Make sure you are trying to boot vista OUTSIDE of windows. Set your CD/DVD drive to first in the boot order in your bios. |

Mothergoose, what's the consensus for pre-cracked editions of Windows Vista, specifically the ones cracked by the group BIE?

You need a DVDRW to rewright with. +R and -R DVD's are pretty close to the same thing when considering what you can use them for. -R's are in fact better for movies and such as in they write faster in benchmarks but you will not notice a differance. I have never come across a burner that won't use both. I have never seen a player that won't play both. I have however seen players, sony being one brand name, that won't play cheap burned disc's. Seems the higher end you go with players the more money you need to spend on your recordable media. Precracked version are usually ok if they are from a trusted uploader. Just read the comments, and look for the green or pink skull next to the uploaders name. It is really the same with modified installations too, like vista black. I just tend not to trust them and I have heard bad things before. |
