Seriously no Avatar thread??
C'mon, there's gotta be another someone who's interested in learning Kung Fu by influence of Avatar. Or at least in eastern philosophies.
BTW, am I the only one that finds Sokka to be a little bit of a side-character? Other than the fact that he can't bend, it shows his lack of spirituality (which is the emphasis of the whole show). I keep seeing hints throughout the show of Sokka being "less" spiritual and "less" understanding than the rest. I should probably open up a thread about the elements too... Speak up, don't be shy. When will all you thick-headed idiots understand that you will simply never understand?

RE: Seriously no Avatar thread??
did you seriously just equate learning a martial art with watching a cartoon about a mystical airbender who rides on a moppy centipede? heh. it was a good show, there should be downloads for the entire series, I watched em all myself at one time or another. I don;t think its still having new eps is it? didn't it go through like a element/season or something then end?

The entire show (3 seasons; water, earth, fire) is available on TPB. When will all you thick-headed idiots understand that you will simply never understand?

heh, ya I mentioned seeing the whole thing actually didn;t I? "heh, it was a good show, there should be downloads for the entire series, I watched em all myself~"
I might of missed something though, because I at no time of watching the show did I see anything that I would say taught me anything about martial arts....Do you water/fire/air/earth bend when doing your martial arts at home? use a fly kite perhaps or become a avatar? I believe it's 4 seasons though isn't it? water, earth, air then fire? |

The show draws a lot of inspiration from far eastern philosophy and culture. If you missed that, I wonder what you did see in Avatar, other than a childrens' TV show. As for the Kung Fu: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar:_The...ing_styles When will all you thick-headed idiots understand that you will simply never understand?

RE: Seriously no Avatar thread??
I seen just that. a TV show. I won't say children's though. As far as your referance saying that the animation sequences were drawn from or based on a real world event.....well....pretty much all are....I mean it'd be a ridiculous show if the martial arts were based on mating habits of a water bear, wouldnt it? But ok, I apologize for obviously making fun of it flippantly. The best of luck in your quest of martial skill using it. Chinese martial arts itself takes inspiration from natural sources that sometimes draw ridicule, but well they have put it to good use surely. And of course the philosophy and culture is interesting.

RE: Seriously no Avatar thread??
i dont know about marshal arts but i definately think the avatar would have failed in his mission if it wasnt for sokka... after all hes the man with the plan... and a kickass sword made from space rock ofcorse.. in fact i dont think any of the cast was a side character in the last airbender .. everyone we met throughout the story re-appeared at least once to lend a helping hand (whether as member of the white lotus secret society.. or just to redeem themselves like jet and the earthbending wrestlers) ... even momo had his part to play.. and they wouldnt have gotton very far without ompa... even the so called badies were integral to the development of the story.. so much so that i can say without a shadow of a doubt that general iroh was by far and away my favorite character.
leaves from the vine falling so slowly come home soldier boy im sure theres a point in all that somewhere^ oh and before i forget.. id like to say.. WTF are you thinking m night shamalan... casting that patel kid from skins and slumdog millionaire as zuko in the upcoming live action movie?.... man hes gonna suck... zuko is supposed to be a bubling culdron of rage and anxiety.. that kid just make me wanna slap him... plus hes way to stick-like to be zuko.... oh and while im on it... in the cartoon water benders were eskimo like, airbenders were nomad monks like that of tibet, earthbenders seemed to me to be more westernised.. maybe they had some spainish blood...and the fire benders were clearly far eastern.. most likely of japanese influence.... so why oh why mr m night shamalamalamalam is the only non white person in the cast indian? wow i really gotta learn to stop typing havent i oh and InvaderPar.. its only 3 seasons.. no air season since he already knows how to airbend AVATAR STATE! YIP! YIP! |
