The band formed at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, where they were all students. Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Luke Pritchard got bassist Max Rafferty involved in a college project, which formed the base of the band. After getting lead guitarist Hugh Harris and drummer Paul Garred involved, they chose a band name from a song off the 1971 David Bowie album Hunky Dory, entitled Kooks. When Virgin tried to trademark the name, they found that in the late/mid 1990s a Swedish band by the same name released a single in Sweden called Too Much of Nothing.
The Kooks released a debut EP and played Brighton's Free Butt festival, and were instantly signed to Virgin Records. Pritchard wrote The Kooks hit song 'Naïve'when he was only fifteen years old, which after release catapulted the debut album, Inside In/Inside Out into the UK Top 20 charts for more than half of 2006. The album has sold more than a million copies and has attained triple platinum status. During a promo tour, the band refused to be interviewed on Channel 4’s Popworld after presenter Simon Amstell made repeated references to Pritchard's ex-girlfriend, Katie Melua.

Third is the third studio album by the trip hop group Portishead. It will be officially released on Monday, April 28, 2008. It is their first release in 10 years, and their first studio album in 11 years. It introduces a rawer, more lo-fi production sound than Portishead’s previous work. The first single from this album will be “Machine Gun,” which made its radio and download debut on March 18, 2008. It premiered on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show and was made available for download on the band’s official website. A UK one-sided 12 inch vinyl release is set for release on April 14, 2008.

The band was formed in Bristol, UK in 1991, by Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley. Previously, Barrow had been working as a tape operator (including work with Massive Attack and Tricky), Gibbons was singing in pubs, and Utley had played jazz guitar for Big John Patton and The Jazz Messengers. The trio created the short film To Kill a Dead Man, which was heavily inspired by espionage films, and its accompanying soundtrack persuaded Go! Beat Records to sign the band.

Baby Woodrose is Lorenzo, drummer from Danish heavy stoner/psych rockers, On Trial. Here, he plays all the instruments (guitars, drums, organ & electric piano), performing songs very much in the retro-garage blazing fuzz-psych tradition, more 1966 than either later-60s acid rock psychedelia, or the 70s heavy rock that inspired today's "stoner" scene. The influences of that era are abundant and pretty readily apparent, referencing everything from the Thirteenth Floor Elevators to the Strawberry Alarm Clock, by way of the Yardbirds, Electric Prunes, Seeds, Chocolate Watchband; even the Stooges and Sonics. The guitars are either twangy & reverb-drenched or maximally fuzzed, the vocals snarl in your face or ooze from the murk deep in the back of the reverb chamber; all of the expected period nuances are there. Not much in the way of "space" (nice seagull screams on "Living A Dream", though) or "progressive" (it's far too greasy) music here, but fans of earlier "head" music ought to get into this album. After all, how can you argue with a song like "Right To Get High"?

Silent Cry is the sixth full studio album by Welsh rock band Feeder. It will be released on Echo Records, on June 16, 2008, in the United Kingdom. The first single, 'We Are The People', will precede the album, being released on June 9. The album was recorded at the Crypt Studios in North London, England, with the help of long time friend of the band Matt Sime. The Beatles room at Abbey Road was also used to record an orchestra. Like their 1999 album Yesterday Went Too Soon, the album will be self-produced.

Feeder are a Welsh rock band, who formed in Newport, South Wales, during 1992. The band were originally comprised of Grant Nicholas (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Taka Hirose (bass), and Jon Lee (drums). Following the latter's death, former Skunk Anansie and Little Angels drummer Mark Richardson joined in August 2002. Feeder have also been accompanied by touring members Matt Sime (keyboards; 2000–2002), and Dean Tidey (guitar, backing vocals; 1998–present).
